In this workshop, students will learn how to break out of the same-old rules for plying and add some creativity into their handspun, creating unique texture for knitting, crocheting, or weaving projects. During the course of this workshop, students will experiment with spiral-plying and auto-wrapping techniques, as well as how to address various tricky add-ins, such as wool locks, feathers, ribbons, tassels, and so much more. This class is to assist in breaking out your creative spinning side!
The workshop is open to both wheel and spindles! Students are recommended to bring in spun singles on two or more bobbins to have enough to experiment with during the workshop. In a pinch? Store bought yarn is acceptable for the purposes of the workshop. Just know that it will behave differently than handspun singles. If there is something in particular that you would like to learn how to add in to your handspun, feel free to bring it to the workshop.
Suggested supplies for students:
– Spinning wheel or large plying spindle of choice
– Lazy Kate for wheel or spindle plying methods (e.g., spindle Lazy Kate, plying balls/cakes)
– Enough spun singles or yarn to practice with for the entirety of the workshop — Two bobbins for a wheel or two ply balls for students with a spindle are recommended
– Bulky flyer for wheels (optional)
– Additional bobbins for students with wheels (optional)
– Larger whorls for wheel students (optional)
– Small/sampling niddy noddy (optional)
Please come to the class early if you need assistance setting up your wheel before class begins.
Enrollment: Class is limited to 5 people unless approved by the instructor. Enrollment must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the first class to ensure there is a space for you. You can sign up in the store, online, or by phone (817)731-5044.
If you need to cancel your class registration, you will be issued store credit for the class amount if you give us a week or more notice. If given less than a week and we can fill your spot in the knitting class, you will be issued store credit for the class amount.
If there are less than 2 students in a class, the class may be cancelled one day prior and store credit will be issued for the class fee.
Missed single classes cannot be made up or credited towards a future class.
