Color Theory with Ana Clerc of Yarn Carnival

February 4, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

$70

Color Theory for Fiber and Needlework Artists – February 4th, 2017, 10:30am – 4:30pm

$70 (cost includes visual presentation and full packet of 20+pages of handouts for each student, as well as art supplies for class exercises).

Here’s What You’ll Learn; Color Theory in four parts:

• Classical color theory: color theory terms, the color wheel, color relationships (exercise: coloring in color wheels, both pure hues as well as tints, tones, and shades).

• Combining colors: context, metamerism, contrast, proportion, intensity, and value dominance (exercise: coloring high contrast and low contrast versions of the same image).

• The science and culture of color: what is color, how do we actually see it, color blindness, the cultural meanings of colors worldwide (exercise: color coding 2 fair isle/pattern charts based on a single image).

• Color, texture and gauge: how yarn/thread texture, stitch texture, density, gauge and embellishments can all influence how we perceive the color of a finished object, (exercise: create your own color charts for patterns from artwork and photographs paying attention to value, intensity, proportion, and contrast in the original source).

Here’s What to Bring:

• A notebook for notes and a pen/pencil.
• Lunch.
• A desire to play with color to your heart’s content!

• Knitting/crochet/needlework supplies for swatching.

If you’d like to swatch the color theory exercises, you’ll need small quantities of the following colors: red, pink, orange, light orange or peach, dark yellow, light yellow, medium green, light green, medium blue, light blue, medium purple, light purple, gray, white, black, cream, brown/tan.  (the swatching exercises can also be done outside of class)

Class Minimum: 8
Class Maximum: 15

Note: The visual presentation portion of class goes on at times throughout the whole class, during which the lighting will be lowered.  Hopefully this will not be a problem!
