Registration Deadline: Friday, October 18 5:00pm
Time: Saturday Afternoon from 1pm to 4pm
Date: October 19
Level: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate
Skills Taught:
Learn a fundamental technique for making beautiful, fluffy singles or a great foundation for art yarns: corespinning. In this workshop, students will learn the basic techniques to corespinning, which is the technique for applying fiber around a thread referred to as a core yarn. We will discuss how to choose the direction and ways of laying the fiber over the core to achieve a desired effect. As a bonus, one 3-4oz batt will be provided per student and additional may be available for purchase at the time of the class. Fiber supplies are limited. A sample core thread will be provided, but it is highly encouraged to bring other yarns to the workshop to experiment with. Cores could include a strong laceweight mohair, silk, cotton, or wool. This technique does require a wheel but can be achieved on both a standard or bulky flyer. At the end of the workshop, we will discuss options on how to finish your handspun yarn.
Items to bring to class:
– Spinning wheel
– Bobbins
– Orifice hook
– Bulky flyer and related accessories (optional)
– Lazy kate (optional)
– Experimental yarns as cores (optional)
– Experimental fibers, woolen or carded often works best but worsted or combed top can work (optional)
